Sunset Gold Vintage Moroccan Silk Kilim design by BD FineOne-of-a-kind and extremely rare vintage silk rugs, weaved by a nomadic Berber tribe from the Atlas Mountains,
South of Marrakesh, Morocco, circa mid 20th century
Made of the finest silks, these rugs are handmade using a
weft and warp weaving method in addition to a rare Jijim technique that provides the raised appearance of the
embroidered ornamental motifs and patterns.

VINTAGE / ANTIQUE MOROCCAN SILK KILIMS:This uniquely modern design of distinct symbols and their asymmetric patterning indicate a rich history and art of
the tribe's craftsmanship
Natural dyes change over time to reflect a luxurious character and luster to the silk.
Silk rugs have no pile, which makes them very durable with the softness of a blanket
They will last for
generations, adding a sophisticated style to a home.ORIGIN:The nomadic Berber tribes are traditionally kilim weavers
Each rug tapestry reflects a traditional appearance
unique to the region and is accentuated with each tribe's own craftsmanship and repertoire of drawings
The plain
weave is decorated by rare geometrical patterns which vary with the customs and traditions that differ from region
to region.PROCESS:The more time intensive supplementary weft or extra-weft weaving is what provides the rare patterns over the
standard weft and keeps the warp thread together
These give the appearance of an embroidered addition, and
result in the raised pattern
The nomadic lifestyle of the Berbers is very suitable for weaving kilims
However, as
the nomad way of life disappears, so does the knowledge of this complex weaving process
Silk kilim rugs are
weaved with the Jijim weaving technique (otherwise known as Jajim and Cicim) , where a variety of colored
threads are applied between the weft (cotton, visible as a fringe) and warp threads (silk) , on the reverse of the
weave
This technique is used here to decorate the ground-weave and create small scattered ornamental motifs.
The ground-weave underneath shows through, giving the impression of an embroidered motif.DESIGN:Asymmetric arrangements of the motifs and the minimalist design of the symbols draw comparisons to the avant
garde style of the mid - 20th century
The sophistication of its weavers is clear in the formal choices, such as the
colors and the materials.Pile: None*Please note, this item is excluded from sale events. Please allow 1 week to ship out and receive tracking.
